Philips Hue launches designer rope lights that blend smart control with architectural style
The Liane 360-degree rope lights use OmniGlow technology to create color-changing illumination that works as both functional lighting and interior design statement.

Philips Hue unveiled a new generation of smart lighting at IFA Berlin this week that moves beyond the typical tech-aesthetic limitations of color-changing bulbs and fixtures. The standout product is the Liane 360-degree rope light, a flexible, diffuse illumination system designed to integrate seamlessly into modern interior spaces as both a design element and light source.
What makes Liane different#
Rather than using discrete pinpoint LEDs, Liane employs Hue's OmniGlow technology to emit light uniformly in all directions along the entire length of the tube. This approach means the rope itself becomes the light source, eliminating harsh spots and allowing the fixture to function as a genuine architectural feature rather than a visible tech add-on.
The rope's flexibility is a key selling point. Users can drape it around furniture, hang it from walls or ceilings, shape it into organic curves, or coil it around architectural elements using simple clips and mounts. Combined with smart color-changing capabilities, this creates possibilities rarely seen in rope lighting — typically available only in white.
Pricing and availability#
Convenience comes at a premium. The Liane starts at $399.99 for a 3-meter length, with a 5-meter model priced at $549.99. The lights are available now through Philips-Hue.com.
Expanding the design-forward lineup#
Hue also introduced three new fixtures to its Signe collection, all emphasizing slender aesthetics: a pendant, pendulum, and pole light with minimalist black housings that can be mounted flexibly on ceilings, walls, or other strategic locations. These start at $319.99 and launch in October.
The company further expanded its Festavia line with additional indoor and outdoor options, including curtain lights, nets, and icicle designs, continuing its push into decorative smart lighting.
