SwitchBot launches European retrofit lock with 19 unlock methods and stronger motor
The Lock Ultra Max Vision Pro Combo pairs biometric and app-based access with a more powerful mechanism designed for European door types.
The Verge
SwitchBot has unveiled a new retrofit smart lock tailored for the European market, featuring a suite of authentication options and enhanced mechanical performance. Introduced at IFA, the device aims to replace traditional keys with multiple entry methods while maintaining compatibility with existing door hardware.
Multiple Access Methods#
The Lock Ultra Max offers up to 19 distinct ways to unlock a door. Users can choose between fingerprint biometrics, traditional passcodes, NFC card access, and emerging contactless technologies including facial and palm vein recognition. Beyond physical authentication, the system integrates with the SwitchBot ecosystem—enabling remote access, voice commands, smartwatch triggers, and widget-based control through the company's mobile app.
Hardware Tailored for Europe#
A key differentiator from earlier SwitchBot models is the upgraded motor architecture. The new unit delivers over 9 kilograms of rotational force and spins at 160 rpm, representing a 3.2-fold speed increase compared to the older Lock Ultra generation. SwitchBot claims the mechanism accommodates 99 percent of European lock profiles, encompassing EU cylinders, knob variants, Swiss rounds, and UK oval styles. Additional adapters are available for less common installations.
Pricing and Package#
The Lock Ultra Max Vision Pro Combo retails for €339.99 / £339.99 (approximately $395) and bundles three components: the new Lock Ultra Max, the Keypad Vision Pro, and a Hub Mini Matter-enabled hub. The price sits above last year's $249.99 Lock Ultra Vision, though SwitchBot asserts the Max variant offers better alignment with European lock standards and enhanced performance metrics.
