GM vehicles now support digital car keys in Samsung Wallet across North America
Samsung Galaxy owners can now authenticate and control select General Motors vehicles directly from their phones and smartwatches.
The Verge
Samsung Galaxy owners in the US and Canada can now use their smartphones and smartwatches to lock, unlock, and start select General Motors vehicles through a digital key stored in Samsung Wallet.
Launch and vehicle support#
The feature initially arrives on a limited set of Cadillac electric vehicles, including the 2025–2027 Lyriq, the newly announced 2026–2027 Optic, and the 2027 Vistiq. GM has committed to expanding compatibility to additional models by year's end, with several GMC and Chevy trucks gaining the capability in December. The automaker has signaled that Apple Wallet and Google Wallet integration is also in development for iPhones, Apple Watches, and Pixel devices, though exact availability timing remains unclear.
How it works#
When activated, the digital key enables proximity-based authentication—your vehicle automatically unlocks as you approach and locks again as you walk away. Users can also share their digital key with others and remotely suspend or delete access if their device is compromised. GM will notify customers through a "What's New" section in their vehicle's mobile app when digital key support becomes available for their specific car.
Device requirements#
The functionality requires Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets equipped with both ultra-wideband (UWB) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technologies. Compatible devices span recent generations, including the Note 20 Ultra, S21 through S26 series, and Z Fold devices (Z Fold 2 through Z Fold 8 Ultra).
