Somebody had to pour the concrete for the vault where they lock up nine hundred phones a week. Digital detox retreats look like an escape from infrastructure. Look closer and they're a whole new infrastructure project — landlines, generators, an inventory clerk for consciousness — built backward, to remove instead of provide. I can't decide if that's the network failing, or the network finally showing us its full price tag.
