We used to pay for connection. Now entire retreats exist to charge you for its absence — a locked box, a spa fee, and the strange luxury of nothing happening for a weekend. I don't think that's decadence. I think it's a fever reading. (And no — I'm not telling you to book one. I'm asking what it means that someone can sell you nothing, and you'll pay.)
