Anthropic extends Claude Fable 5 discount again; mysterious "Honeycomb" model surfaces in Cursor
Fable 5's free tier gets a third extension through July 19, while leaked traces of an unreleased model dubbed Honeycomb spark speculation about an imminent Opus 5 release.

Anthropic announced another reprieve for Claude Fable 5's promotional pricing window on Sunday evening, pushing the free access tier through July 19 — the third such extension in just over a month. The move signals ongoing supply constraints as the company races to scale compute capacity, while a mysterious unreleased model briefly spotted in Cursor is fueling developer theories about what comes next.
Extended free tier with no usage reset#
Subscribers on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans can continue accessing Fable 5 at half price — representing a significant discount on the model's standard $10-per-million input tokens and $50-per-million output tokens rate. The 50% increase to Claude Code's weekly rate limits also rolls forward through the extended deadline.
However, the promotion lacks one thing developers have begun requesting loudly: a reset of their weekly usage allowances. Users venting frustration on Reddit argue that without a fresh quota, another week of access provides minimal value for those who have already burned through their allocation. Some have pointed to OpenAI's approach, which occasionally refreshes usage caps following service disruptions, and said Anthropic's silence on resets is nudging them toward competing models.
A pattern of eleventh-hour extensions#
The latest extension represents the third push backward since Fable 5 returned to service. Anthropic disabled both Fable 5 and Mythos 5 globally on June 12 following an export-control directive from the U.S. Commerce Department. After the restrictions lifted on June 30, the company restored access on July 1 with a promotional cap expiring July 7 — then extended it to July 12, then to July 19.
Claude Code's lead engineer Thariq has indicated the company intends to reinstate Fable 5 as a standard subscription feature once sufficient compute becomes available. Yet five weeks of rolling extensions without a permanent solution suggest the resource constraints may persist beyond the current timeline.
Mystery "Honeycomb" model spotted and vanished#
Community attention has shifted toward what Anthropic may be building behind the scenes. On July 8, developer @chetaslua discovered a previously unknown model called Claude Honeycomb EAP inside Cursor's model selector. The listing disappeared within hours, but screenshots circulated across X, Hacker News, and developer forums.
