Apple Watch Ultra 4 debuts with faster processor and advanced health monitoring
Apple's latest rugged smartwatch pairs the new S11 chip with improved sensors for more frequent heart rate tracking and readiness for the enhanced Siri coming in watchOS 27.
The Verge
Apple unveiled the Apple Watch Ultra 4 at its "Surprise and Shine" event, bringing meaningful performance and health-tracking improvements to its premium wearable line without major aesthetic changes.
Processing Power and Performance#
The new Ultra 4 retains the familiar design of its predecessor but upgrades to Apple's S11 processor, stepping up from the S10 chip that debuted with the Apple Watch Series 10 in 2024. This generational leap prepares the device for Apple's upcoming watchOS 27 release, which will introduce a more intelligent Siri AI assistant alongside other software refinements.
Enhanced Health Sensors#
The standout upgrades focus on real-time health tracking. The Ultra 4 incorporates a redesigned sensor with improved electrodes that provide sharper ECG readings, while new power-efficient green LEDs boost the accuracy of heart rate measurements throughout the day and during exercise. The efficiency gains enable the watch to capture heart rate data at dramatically increased frequency—up to 60 times more often than before, now at 5-second intervals. Users can also expect heart rate variability measurements every five minutes, offering granular insights into how their body responds to physical and emotional stress.
watchOS 27 and Beyond#
Coming with the new operating system, the Ultra 4 will benefit from an overhauled app interface, deeper health and fitness capabilities, and battery optimizations. The device arrives as the latest iteration following the Ultra 3 from last year, which introduced 5G cellular support, satellite emergency calling, and a larger display with a refined bezel.
