Google's Gemini AI Now Handles Business Calls for Pixel Users
A new Pixel 11 feature lets Gemini make calls to businesses on your behalf, from restaurant reservations to appointment rescheduling, with users able to step in at any moment.
The Verge
Google is rolling out an experimental capability that delegates routine business phone calls to its Gemini AI assistant on Pixel 11 devices. Users can instruct Gemini to contact restaurants, shops, or service providers to handle tasks like booking a table, verifying inventory availability, or changing appointment times—all without picking up the phone themselves.
How It Works#
Rather than manually dialing, you direct Gemini through the Gemini app to make the call on your behalf. The AI manages the entire interaction: it introduces itself, navigates automated menus, holds during wait times, and converses with the person who answers. Throughout the call, you see a live transcript and retain the ability to take over the conversation whenever you choose.
Building on Earlier Efforts#
This iteration expands on Google's prior "Call for me" feature, which launched last year but only allowed the AI to ask questions about product availability—it couldn't be handed off to a human user mid-call. Meta is pursuing a parallel path with its Muse AI agent, though reports suggest those automated calls may actually be placed by human operators working from call centers.
Availability#
The feature is launching today as an "early preview," initially limited to Gemini paid subscribers who have enrolled in the Phone by Google Public Beta program on Pixel 11 devices in the United States.
