Meta launches Pocket, an AI-powered app for building and sharing interactive games
Meta's new app lets users generate small, playable experiences through AI prompts, drawing on tech acquired from the vibe-coded platform Gizmo.
TechCrunch — AI
Meta has introduced Pocket, a new application that enables users to create interactive mini-games and apps by describing them in natural language. The move signals Meta's continued investment in democratizing AI-driven creative tools for mainstream audiences.
How Pocket Works#
Pocket functions as a creative sandbox where users write simple text prompts to generate interactive experiences, known within the platform as "gizmos." The app combines this AI-generation capability with a social discovery feed, allowing people to explore and play with creations made by others—similar to how TikTok surfaces user-generated content. The interface and functionality closely mirror Gizmo, the original vibe-coded platform that Meta acquired earlier in 2026.
The Gizmo Acquisition Connection#
Pocket is built on technology acquired when Meta brought in the team behind Gizmo, a company founded by former Snapchat engineers who specialized in low-code, AI-assisted app building. Though Gizmo's original app remains available on app stores, Pocket represents Meta's rebranding and integration of that concept under its own umbrella. Gizmo had accumulated 635,000 installs before the acquisition and maintained a 98% positive user sentiment rating.
Quiet Launch and Early Phase#
The app appeared on Google Play and the App Store on June 29, 2026, but Meta has not formally announced it. Reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi first spotted the launch on social media, and the discovery was subsequently covered by Business Insider and other outlets. Because of how recently Pocket launched, analytics firms cannot yet measure its download traction. The silent rollout suggests Meta is still testing the concept before a wider push.
Part of Meta's AI Creator Push#
Pocket joins a growing portfolio of AI creation tools Meta has released to consumers. The company previously launched Meta AI for generating images, for AI video creation, and , a video-editing suite that now includes generative AI features. Each tool reflects Meta's strategy to position AI not as a behind-the-scenes technology but as an accessible creative medium for ordinary users.
