Apple's fall product event under new CEO John Ternus spotlighted the tech giant's entry into the foldable phone market alongside refinements to its existing device ecosystem. The announcements span phones, wearables, and software upgrades designed to tighten Apple Intelligence integration across its hardware lineup.
iPhone Duo: Apple's First Foldable#
Apple's first foldable, the iPhone Duo, marks a significant milestone for the company's product strategy. When opened, the device displays a 7.6-inch Retina screen, while the outer panel measures 5.4 inches—designed with what Apple calls "iPad-inspired versatility" in mind. The inner display incorporates an under-display camera for a seamless viewing experience.
The foldable delivers impressive battery performance, supporting up to 31 hours of video playback on its inner display and 44 hours on the outer screen. Its camera system includes a 48-megapixel fusion main lens and a 48-megapixel ultrawide with 2x optical zoom, enabling rear-camera selfie capture with preview capability on the outer display.
The engineering of the hinge represents a technical achievement: composed of Grade 5 aluminum with more than 100 specialized components, the hinge was engineered with AI to ensure smooth, consistent operation. Pricing starts at $1,999 for 256GB storage in two color options. Pre-orders begin October 16, with retail availability on October 23.
iPhone 18 Pro: Camera-Focused Upgrades#
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max maintain the familiar design language while concentrating improvements on imaging capability. The standout feature is a new 48-megapixel camera sensor paired with a variable aperture system controlled by six micro blades—a configuration intended to enhance low-light performance and accelerate shooting speed.
New professional controls give users direct access to white balance, shutter speed, aperture adjustment, and histogram data. A fresh "Photographic Styles" feature enables deeper customization through texture and grain manipulation. Video recording extends to 4K in Dolby HDR Vision with the ability to apply cinematic effects during post-processing.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199; the Max model launches at $1,299—a $100 increase from the prior generation. Saturday marks the start of pre-orders, with both models reaching shelves on September 18.
