Meta taps MongoDB CEO to lead new enterprise AI business unit
The social media company is launching a dedicated platform to bring its growing AI stack—including its personal assistant Muse—to corporate customers and developers.
TechCrunch — AI
Meta unveiled a fresh business division Monday devoted to selling artificial intelligence tools to enterprises, recruiting Chirantan "CJ" Desai, who until now led database software maker MongoDB, to oversee the effort.
A Push Into Enterprise AI#
The initiative, branded Meta Enterprise Platform, represents the company's strategic bet that organizations need AI solutions tailored for scaling operations and serving customers. The venture builds directly on the momentum of Muse, Meta's personal AI assistant unveiled just days earlier, which automates tasks like composing messages and organizing travel arrangements. The new platform will bundle Muse alongside other components—the Meta Business Agent, Muse API, Muse Code, and additional tools—into a cohesive offering for businesses.
Desai framed the opportunity in sweeping terms. "Over the coming years, AI will fundamentally redefine how organizations of all sizes innovate, grow, serve customers, and run business operations," he said, pointing to Meta's strengths in working with millions of advertisers and hundreds of millions of businesses. The platform aims to convert this existing infrastructure and AI capabilities into deployable solutions.
Market Impact#
The executive shift sent ripples through MongoDB's investor base. The company's stock fell more than 17% following the announcement of Desai's departure. MongoDB named Dev Ittycheria, a former CEO, as interim leader while its board seeks a permanent successor.
What It Means for Meta#
The move underscores Meta's focus on recovering its substantial AI investments through new revenue streams. By offering enterprise products and services, the company hopes to unlock value from its expanding technical capabilities beyond social media and advertising.
