Notion shuts down Notion Mail as AI agents become primary email tool
The Gmail client, built from Skiff acquisition talent, will close in September as more than half of users delegate email tasks to AI instead of managing inboxes directly.

Notion is discontinuing Notion Mail effective September 22, marking the final chapter for the Gmail client the company launched in April 2025. The inbox will shut down across web, desktop, and iOS platforms.
The move comes roughly two years after Notion acquired Skiff, an encrypted email startup. Notion had already wound down Skiff's core email service in 2024, then built Notion Mail from talent that joined through the acquisition.
According to Notion's announcement, the shift reflects changing user behavior: more than half of Notion Mail users now manage emails without opening their inbox at all. Instead, they're delegating email workflows to Notion's AI agents. The company says it's "going all in" on agent-based email management rather than maintaining a traditional inbox interface.
User data will remain in Gmail after the shutdown, so customers won't lose email history. The move signals Notion's strategic pivot toward autonomous AI workflows over traditional software interfaces for routine tasks like email handling.
