Rapper Fenix Flexin shifts stance, now acknowledges AI role in chart hit 'Rubberz'
The LA artist has moved from denying AI involvement to insisting he never actually claimed it wasn't used, after mounting evidence and producer revelations.

Fenix Flexin appears to have reversed course on his previous denials about using artificial intelligence to create his viral 80s synth-pop track "Rubberz." After weeks of publicly rejecting allegations that AI played a role in the song's production, the rapper now contends he never actually made such a denial in the first place.
The Shift in Narrative#
In a recent Instagram post responding to a user who mentioned fellow rapper Tyga's reliance on AI for his own 80s-themed project, Fenix declared: "never said I didn't use AI, i said it had nun to do w recording process." He went on to frame AI as simply a tool that helped him keep pace with modern production methods, adding that he wasn't even aware of the specific software until after mixing was complete and scrutiny arrived online.
This framing contradicts his earlier public statements, most notably a radio interview on Hot 97's Mornings With Mero just weeks prior, where he stated there was "no AI on it" when directly questioned about the allegation.
Mounting Evidence#
The shift comes after producer Medasin released videos claiming that an AI music generation tool called Treblo (formerly Sonauto) was used to create the song. Treblo's parent company bolstered those claims by releasing an AI detector that identified the track as having been created with their technology. These technical revelations made further denial increasingly difficult to sustain.
Pattern of Deflection#
Before changing his messaging, Fenix and his team had made numerous attempts to discredit the AI allegations. They shared what they characterized as recording session files, intervened in comment sections to insist two human musicians created the track in his living room using standard production software, and even suggested that footage showing lip-syncing was actually genuine vocal performance.
The shift from outright denial to reframing the use of AI as a legitimate production tool marks a notable change in how the song's genesis is being discussed publicly.
