Google Rolls Out AI-Powered Study Tools Across Search and Gemini for Students
Google is expanding its educational offerings with interactive simulations, customized quizzes, and a new learning hub to help students compete with other learning platforms.
TechCrunch — AI
Google unveiled a suite of new learning features designed to position Gemini and Search as go-to study companions for students. The additions span both platforms and introduce interactive visual tools, 3D simulations, practice assessments, and document summarization to help learners tackle complex subjects.
Enhanced Search Capabilities#
Students can now generate custom interactive visuals and simulations directly within Search results. For instance, searching for "pH scale" yields an AI-powered visual guide that breaks down the concept—and asking a follow-up about specific examples like citrus fruits creates a tailored interactive experience.
The platform is also introducing customized practice quizzes across multiple disciplines—science, mathematics, humanities, and languages. A student can request something like, "Create a quiz with the most commonly tested vocabulary words to help me prep for the SAT," and Search generates an interactive assessment on the spot.
Lens, Google's camera tool, is gaining an interactive problem-solving feature that lets students photograph their work and receive AI-guided explanations, error identification, and hints. Additionally, students can upload lecture materials, handwritten notes, or PDF documents to have Search synthesize them into a one-page study guide highlighting essential points.
New Gemini Tools#
The AI assistant is rolling out multi-step research reports that run in the background. Students can request Gemini to investigate a topic, then continue with other tasks while it works; they'll receive a notification when the research is complete and can discuss findings conversationally, including via voice.
Gemini is also now capable of generating functional 3D simulations embedded directly in responses—allowing interactive exploration of concepts like DNA structures that users can rotate and examine from all angles.
Google has launched a dedicated learning hub within Gemini that consolidates study resources, letting users access study notebooks, create flashcards, and take quizzes in a single location.
Competition in Education Tech#
The move reflects Google's broader push to establish Gemini as a central study tool, competing with rivals including , learning platforms like , and problem-solving apps such as —all of which offer their own practice and learning features.
