Google launches MCP server to accelerate Google Pay & Wallet API integrations
A new Model Context Protocol server brings Google Pay and Wallet functionality directly into AI assistants and IDEs, reducing friction and speeding up developer workflows.
Google Developers Blog (AI)
Google has announced the Google Pay & Wallet Developer MCP server, a tool designed to help developers integrate with Google's payment and digital wallet APIs more efficiently using AI assistants and modern IDEs.
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that allows AI agents to securely interact with external services. By implementing it for Google Pay & Wallet, Google aims to bridge a critical gap: AI assistants often lack real-time context about developer accounts, the latest API changes, and integration status.
Key capabilities#
The new MCP server equips AI assistants with several core tools:
- Documentation search: A retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) tool pulls answers and code samples directly from official docs, eliminating the need to hunt through multiple pages.
- Account access: Developers can check integration status, fetch merchant identifiers, and view Wallet pass classes without leaving their IDE.
- JWT validation: Validate and amend Wallet pass JWTs and JSON definitions on the fly before deployment.
- Performance monitoring: Surface key metrics, error codes, and trends to speed up troubleshooting.
- Integration management: Create merchant accounts and configure new Google Pay API integrations directly from the development environment.
The goal is to reduce context switching, improve code accuracy, and cut the time from setup to launch. Google notes the server is compatible with AI agents like Antigravity and Cursor, as well as Visual Studio Code and other MCP-enabled IDEs.
Getting started#
Developers can access the public guide at goo.gle/pay-wallet-mcp for setup instructions. Google is also inviting feedback via its Discord Payments community and plans to expand the server's capabilities based on developer input.
