Apple has unveiled next-generation chips—the M6 and M5 Ultra—powering overhauled versions of its Mac Mini and Mac Studio desktop computers. Both machines are now open for preorder through Apple's website, with most configurations shipping from September 22nd, 2026.
Pricing and availability#
The entry-level Mac Mini with M6 begins at $899, marking a $300 jump from the prior-generation M4 base model. Stepping up to the M5 Pro version costs $1,699. The Mac Studio starts at $2,499 for the M5 Max configuration (paired with 36GB of memory and 512GB storage), while the M5 Ultra variant with 96GB RAM and 1TB storage lists for $5,499. A premium 512GB RAM option will ship later in October, with pricing still to be disclosed.
What's improved#
The redesigned machines focus on enhancing artificial intelligence workloads and network performance. The Mac Mini introduces several connectivity upgrades: baseline 2.5Gb Ethernet, Bluetooth 6, and Wi-Fi 7 support. This generation also marks the first time the Mac Mini stepped beyond M4 and M4 Max processors, bringing more capable silicon to Apple's most affordable desktop line.
Context#
The launch arrives ahead of Apple's expected fall iPhone announcement event, continuing the company's cadence of staggered product releases throughout the year. For deeper specifications and performance details, see The Verge's full coverage of the Mac Mini and Mac Studio announcements.
