Google's NotebookLM Now Generates TikTok-Style Video Clips from Your Research Notes
The AI note-taking app can now automatically create shareable vertical videos with AI-generated visuals and voiceover to summarize your uploaded sources.
The Verge
Google is expanding NotebookLM's content generation suite with a fresh tool: AI-powered short-form videos designed to look and feel like what you'd find on TikTok or YouTube Shorts. The new capability generates 60-second vertical clips that distill your research into snappy summaries, complete with AI-created imagery and spoken narration.
What's new#
The short-form video feature is currently available to those with Google AI Ultra and Pro subscriptions, with broader access for free-tier users planned for the near future. To create a clip, you navigate to your notebook in NotebookLM's web or mobile interface, head to the Studio section, and select "Video" then "Short." You can either let the app suggest a topic from your sources or provide your own focus point before hitting generate.
How it complements existing tools#
NotebookLM already offered multiple ways to remix your notes—the platform lets you generate AI-narrated podcast episodes and cinematic video summaries. These short clips add another dimension, targeting users who want quick, social-media-friendly formats. Google recently shared an example featuring Australia's ill-fated emu war, presented with paper-cutout-style AI illustrations and accompanying narration.
Current limitations#
For now, the feature is English-language only. Google has signaled that free-account support is on the horizon, though no timeline has been announced.
