Meta AI brings voice dictation and screen awareness to Mac with new desktop app
The tech giant launches a native macOS application that listens across all programs and understands your screen context.
TechCrunch — AI
Meta has rolled out a Mac application for its AI assistant that blends system-wide voice input with visual screen awareness. The tool uses Meta's Muse Spark model to comprehend what's currently displayed on your monitor and respond to follow-up questions grounded in that context.
How the Mac app works#
The dictation functionality spans across every application on macOS—matching capabilities already offered by competing tools like Whisper Flow, Superwhisper, and Monologue. Google recently took a similar step, adding system-wide dictation to its Gemini app for Mac.
New business-focused features#
Beyond the desktop app, Meta announced an expanded toolkit aimed at business operators. The platform now allows merchants to link their Instagram and Facebook accounts, advertising campaigns, and Google Workspace services—Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides—directly into Meta AI. This integration enables business owners to extract performance data by simply querying the assistant about their operations.
The system can surface campaign metrics, audience behavior patterns, and which content performed strongest. Competitors' publicly available information also becomes accessible through the same query interface.
What businesses can create#
Meta AI's business integrations enable teams to auto-generate presentation decks, compose documents, and build spreadsheets—all through conversational prompts to the AI assistant.
Broader enterprise strategy#
The Mac rollout reflects Meta's intensifying push into business automation. The company has already expanded AI-powered customer service agents across WhatsApp and Instagram. During its second-quarter earnings presentation, CEO Mark Zuckerberg highlighted what he sees as a substantial market opportunity: licensing autonomous agents to enterprises for workplace automation.
