Prentis AI Lab Seeks $100M to Automate Office Work Across Enterprise Systems
A research startup co-founded by LinkedIn's Reid Hoffman and Zynga's Marc Pincus is pursuing funding at a $1 billion valuation to deploy AI agents that handle routine clerical tasks for large enterprises.
TechCrunch — AI
Prentis, an artificial intelligence research lab established this April by Ritankar Das, Reid Hoffman, and Marc Pincus, is pursuing a $100 million funding round that would value the company at $1 billion. The startup aims to create AI systems capable of automating repetitive office workflows—such as managing insurance claims and processing duty refund exceptions—by teaching models how corporate workers navigate documents and software systems.
Market Traction and Customer Base#
The company has already signed customer contracts valued at up to $50 million, spanning healthcare management organizations, manufacturers, and apparel brands. Internal projections, shared in the startup's pitch materials, suggest the company could reach an annualized run rate of $75 million by the third quarter of the year. However, these figures are based on contracted fee structures pegged to 20% of realized savings rather than recognized revenue, and remain dependent on successful deployment outcomes.
Technical Approach and Competitive Claims#
Prentis has developed a model called Hive-32B that the company claims outperforms competitors on two industry benchmarks measuring computer control capabilities. The startup emphasizes its cost advantage, contending that its smaller model operates at roughly one-tenth the expense of leading commercial AI APIs per task, positioning it as more practical for widespread deployment across enterprise applications.
TechCrunch has not independently verified these performance assertions.
A Crowded Field#
The market for AI agents designed to control computers is intensifying. Anthropic, OpenAI, and Thinking Machines—Mira Murati's recent venture—are all exploring similar territory. Anthropic has already moved to consolidate expertise by acquiring Vercept, a Seattle-based startup, and integrating its engineering team into its own systems.
About the Founders#
Ritankar Das, now 31 and serving as Prentis's chief executive, previously established Titan, a holding company that builds and scales AI-focused businesses using capital generated from successful exits rather than traditional venture funding. Das was UC Berkeley's youngest University Medalist in over 100 years, graduating at age 18 with degrees in bioengineering and chemical biology, and later earned a master's from Oxford before abandoning a PhD program at Cambridge, where he was a Gates Cambridge Scholar.
