Apple's Redesigned Siri AI Gains Deep Device Personalization and On-Screen Understanding
iOS 27 brings a rebuilt Siri with expanded capabilities—from indexing your personal data to understanding what's on your screen—but only on the latest iPhone models.

Apple is overhauling Siri as part of iOS 27, equipping the digital assistant with new skills that bridge the gap between the company's original voice AI and the modern generative AI systems that have since taken the lead. The refreshed Siri AI can now tap into your device's personal context and handle tasks that previously required external tools.
Deep Device Awareness and Personal Search#
The upgraded Siri begins by analyzing your phone's contents—texts, emails, calendar entries, photos, and videos—without sending any data to Apple's servers. This local processing enables you to pose natural, conversational questions about your own information: asking when a work appraisal is scheduled, finding where you agreed to meet a friend, or retrieving photos from a specific trip or containing particular subjects.
The assistant can search your photo library visually, surfacing images based on descriptions rather than tags or metadata alone.
Visual Understanding Within Your Apps#
Siri AI now recognizes what you're viewing on your screen in real time. In Safari, you can ask it to summarize webpage text or identify landmarks in images. Within the Settings app, you can query the meaning of unfamiliar options. The Camera app includes a dedicated Siri mode (accessible via the shutter button selector) that lets you point at real-world objects—such as menu items—and request information like nutritional details.
Text Composition and Editing#
Unlike earlier iterations that delegated text generation to ChatGPT, the new Siri handles writing tasks independently. You can dictate messages, emails, and notes, then instruct it to adjust tone, length, or formality. The assistant tracks your edits, allowing you to review changes and move between versions as you refine the final text.
Expanded App Integration#
Siri can now trigger deeper actions within your apps—creating calendar events, switching playlists, or accepting suggested actions (such as converting a date mentioned in a text into a calendar entry). Over time, third-party app support is expected to expand beyond Apple's native applications.
