Netflix has incorporated generative AI into approximately 300 titles on its service, predominantly during post-production stages, according to the company's latest earnings disclosures. The platform frames these tools as essential to its operational strategy, enabling it to "deliver higher quality output more quickly and at a lower cost."
How Netflix is using AI#
The company cited specific applications across several projects. Films like Glory, Brasil 70: A Saga do Tri, and The American Experiment leveraged the technology to construct visually demanding sequences—ranging from enhanced crowd scenes and historical battle sequences to worldbuilding establishing shots. Earlier, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos explained that AI helped accelerate production of a scene in the sci-fi series The Eternaut by reducing both time and expense.
Expanding AI investments#
Netflix has substantially ramped up its AI footprint through strategic acquisitions and new ventures. The company acquired Ben Affleck's AI startup and launched its own AI animation studio. Most recently, the platform has employed an AI-generated voice of Gene Wilder for its new Wonka's The Golden Ticket reality program.
Financial performance and audience concerns#
Netflix reported $12.56 billion in earnings over the period and remains on pace to double its advertising revenue to $3 billion. However, the company addressed viewer retention challenges highlighted by recent reporting, particularly around difficulty sustaining audience interest through subsequent seasons of shows.
New content strategies#
To compete with ad-supported platforms like YouTube, Netflix has expanded beyond traditional programming. The service now offers video podcasts, vertical short-form clips, and plans to such as BuzzFeed. Reports also suggest Netflix is exploring as it seeks to diversify its content mix.
