Hugging Face unveils Microduck, a palm-sized robot that rolls on skates
The adorable new biped from Pollen Robotics can pick up objects, respond to its environment, and belt out songs in its own unique voice.
The Verge
Pollen Robotics, the subsidiary of AI platform Hugging Face, has introduced its latest companion robot: the Microduck, a one-eyed robotic duck standing just shy of 10 inches tall and equipped with miniature rollerskates. The machine is now available for pre-order at $399, with four color options — cream, graphite, lavender, and sky blue — and is expected to ship before the end of 2026.
What it can do#
The Microduck combines physical capability with entertainment value. Demonstrations reveal the robot performing tasks like collecting socks and markers, playing ball, and navigating on its wheeled feet. Beyond scripted behaviors, it can sense and react to its environment, track a laser pointer, or be piloted manually through a game controller. The tiny robot also possesses a distinctive vocal personality: upon first activation, each unit generates its own unique voice, which persists throughout its operational life.
Technical specs and design#
Powering the Microduck is a Rockchip RK3566 processor paired with an array of sensors and actuators. The platform includes a built-in camera, motion detectors, and LiDAR, combined with articulated legs, head, and neck joints that enable its characteristic movements. True to Hugging Face's philosophy, the software stack is open-source, allowing owners to teach their robots new behaviors and customize functionality beyond the factory setup.
Part of a growing lineup#
The Microduck follows Hugging Face's previous robotics venture, the Reachy Mini, signaling the organization's commitment to accessible, user-programmable companion robots that blend utility with personality.
