Thrive Holdings secures $2B to expand AI across enterprise services
The OpenAI-backed acquirer of traditional professional services firms is entering the infrastructure and regulatory services market.

Thrive Holdings has closed a $2 billion funding round at a $12 billion valuation, backed by investors including SoftBank, D1 Capital Partners, and Altimeter Capital. The company operates as an acquisition vehicle for professional services firms, integrating AI into their core operations and client workflows.
The Thrive model: buying and upgrading with AI#
Rather than a traditional venture-backed startup, Thrive functions closer to a private equity firm focused on AI adoption. It acquires accounting practices, IT consultancies, and other professional services companies, then embeds artificial intelligence tools and OpenAI-supported engineering talent to modernize their operations. The arrangement involves OpenAI employees working directly with portfolio companies to accelerate AI implementation.
Proven traction in accounting and IT#
Thrive's existing two platforms demonstrate measurable impact. Current, the accounting vertical, now operates more than 50 firms with over 2,000 professionals. Its TaxAI system has processed 7,000+ tax returns at 98% accuracy while cutting preparation time by more than 30% at client firms. Shield, focused on information technology services, covers roughly 20 companies and has achieved a 36x improvement in help desk resolution speeds, with AI agent deployments doubling month-over-month.
Across both arms, Thrive has assembled 70+ businesses on its platforms to date.
Entering physical infrastructure and regulation#
Part of this funding round will launch a third vertical targeting regulatory services for the built environment—the complex permitting, approval, compliance, and operational processes that govern data centers, manufacturing facilities, hospitals, power infrastructure, and other critical assets.
According to Thrive, AI can streamline manual-heavy workflows like research, documentation preparation, permit applications, inspection logging, and compliance tracking, while preserving human expertise and professional accountability. "We think AI partnered with a lot of the experts and practitioners at these businesses can really help compress [regulatory bottlenecks], keep the safety standards high," Kareem Zaki, a founding member of Thrive Holdings, said in a statement.
