Google launches dedicated student hub within Gemini to streamline studying

Google is introducing a focused student workspace within its Gemini AI assistant, timed to coincide with the back-to-school period. The hub consolidates a suite of academic tools designed to help learners organize their work and manage their time.

What's included in the student hub#

The new space brings together several study-oriented features in one location:

• Study notebooks that now support embedded graphs and images for richer note-taking
• Flashcard creation for test preparation
• Practice quizzes to reinforce learning
• Automatic calendar integration that extracts test dates and assignment deadlines from your syllabus and adds them to Google Calendar

New academic tools rolling out#

Google is expanding Gemini's capabilities in several ways. The assistant will now help students verify homework using Google Lens, a feature that can identify problem areas and guide learners through difficult concepts. Additionally, Deep Research—a more advanced analysis feature—is coming to Gemini Live, allowing users to request comprehensive research reports and engage in guided conversations about the findings. If generating a report takes time, students can close the chat and return later; Gemini will notify them when the work is complete.

A forthcoming Lens update for the Google mobile app will let students photograph worksheets or study materials and receive instant explanations, conceptual help, or error correction coaching.

Student pricing and access#

Qualifying U.S. students can claim one free year of Google AI Pro, which bundles 5TB of cloud storage, access to Google Health Premium, elevated Gemini usage quotas, and Gemini integration across Google's apps. International students have access to Google AI Plus, a more limited tier offering 400GB of storage and lower Gemini usage caps.
