Musk's Grokipedia AI encyclopedia shows signs of life after eight-month editing freeze
The SpaceXAI-backed Wikipedia rival halted review updates in April but has begun fact-checking articles again, with mixed activity across pages.

Grokipedia, an AI-powered encyclopedia backed by Elon Musk's SpaceXAI, has resumed updating articles following an extended period of dormancy that had raised questions about the platform's viability.
From silence to cautious activity#
The platform halted edit reviews in April without public announcement, drawing attention from media outlets when the gap was reported in August. Its live updates feed now displays recent page modifications, though many currently consist only of automated flags stating "recheck all references and sources."
Recent activity suggests renewed engagement: the Barack Obama entry was fact-checked by Grok within the past two days, and the Elon Musk page received fact-checking within the hour of reporting. Yet the coverage remains patchy—the Honolulu article, linked from Obama's page, hasn't been reviewed in seven months, indicating selective rather than systematic updates.
Testing the editor experience#
During reporting, submissions to the platform moved through its workflow. A suggested release date for the video game Gears of War: E-Day was approved and published immediately. A request for new coverage of Meta's Muse chatbot remains under review, demonstrating that the intake system is operational.
Muted communication from leadership#
Musk has not discussed Grokipedia publicly since February, despite claiming roughly a year ago that it would be "a massive improvement over Wikipedia." SpaceXAI declined to comment on the resumption.
The only recent signal came from Benji Taylor, head of design at X and SpaceXAI, who posted last week that development hadn't stalled, stating "We haven't forgotten about Grokipedia" and previewing version 0.2 improvements—though that version technically launched in November.
