Google's AI Search Gains Travel Booking Powers: Flight Tracking, Hotels, and Loyalty Points
Google is expanding its conversational AI tool to function as a travel agent, handling price tracking, hotel bookings, and loyalty point searches.
TechCrunch — AI
Google is rolling out fresh capabilities for its AI Mode conversational search tool, pushing it beyond information lookup into active trip planning and booking assistance. The enhanced features signal a shift toward positioning AI Mode as a practical travel companion that can handle real transactions.
Flight Search and Price Tracking#
Users can now describe their travel dates and destinations to AI Mode and receive curated flight options sourced from over 300 airlines and travel booking platforms, complete with current pricing. The system also enables price monitoring: users who want to hold off on purchasing can request the tool to watch for rate changes. When prices shift on their chosen route and dates, Google sends an email notification.
Flight price tracking is currently live across more than 180 countries.
Hotel Discovery and Booking#
The hotel feature lets travelers converse with AI Mode about their accommodation needs—specifying dates, preferences, and budget—and receive a curated list of properties with guest reviews and key amenities. Once a property appeals to them, users can ask AI Mode to initiate the booking process.
The actual transaction flows through Google's integrated booking partners, which encompass major chains and booking services such as Booking.com, Marriott International, Expedia, Hilton, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Hilton, Choice Hotels International, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Priceline, Hotels.com, and Trip.com. Travelers select their room type, review cancellation terms, and pay via Google Pay, though the hotel or platform manages the final transaction and any future customer support.
This capability is beginning its U.S. rollout in English and will expand in the coming weeks.
Rewards and Loyalty Points#
A third update lets travelers query AI Mode about booking options using frequent-flyer miles or hotel loyalty points. For example, a user might ask the tool to find nonstop flights from Atlanta to Miami using their American Airlines miles for specific dates. The tool then displays available flights and the exact number of miles required for each option.
This feature is available globally as of now.
