Cursor launches iOS app to manage AI coding agents from smartphones
The coding platform now lets developers oversee and direct autonomous code-writing agents directly from their phones, joining a wave of mobile-first tools in the AI programming space.
TechCrunch — AI
Cursor has released an iOS mobile application that enables developers to command and interact with AI coding agents from their smartphones. The app works in tandem with Cursor 2.0, the platform's shift toward autonomous agents that write code with minimal human intervention.
The new capability#
Users can spawn fresh agents directly from the phone or communicate with agents already running on their desktop. The move mirrors recent launches from rivals—both Anthropic and OpenAI have introduced their own mobile apps for interacting with coding tools, signaling a broader industry trend away from traditional development workflows.
Rethinking developer workflows#
The rise of agent-based coding tools is reshaping how programmers work. As autonomous systems handle code writing, developers increasingly need only oversight rather than direct keyboard access. This shift is pushing some professionals away from large multi-monitor desktop rigs toward lightweight mobile devices that maintain continuous contact with remote agents. "Most of my coding now is on my phone," said Boris Cherny, head of Claude Code at Anthropic, noting that he had largely transitioned to mobile-first AI development—a shift he said would have seemed unthinkable just months earlier.
Context#
This announcement arrives as Cursor continues expanding after a major corporate milestone: SpaceX acquired the company for $60 billion in stock following its blockbuster initial public offering.
