TechCrunch — AI
OpenAI's Alexander Embiricos, who leads development of Dots, the company's newly released autonomous AI agent, will take the stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 on October 13–15 at San Francisco's Moscone West.
Beyond the Chat Interface#
Dots represent a departure from traditional chatbots. Rather than simply responding to user queries, these agents operate continuously in the background with access to their own cloud computing resources. They integrate with everyday applications and work toward objectives without constant human direction, marking a significant expansion in how AI can interact with our digital ecosystems.
The Trust and Control Question#
This shift toward greater autonomy introduces pressing considerations about the relationship between users and AI systems. Critical tensions emerge around user control—how much authority should individuals willingly surrender to an autonomous agent? Permission and transparency also loom large: what actions should an agent take independently versus those requiring explicit approval? As these systems accumulate personal data and gain deeper access to sensitive domains, the ability of companies like OpenAI to cultivate genuine trust becomes central to whether the technology gains mainstream adoption.
The Disrupt Conversation#
Embiricos will participate in a session titled "What Comes After the Chatbot?" where he'll explore the strategy underpinning Dots, the trajectory OpenAI envisions for personal agents, and how privacy and trust will ultimately determine whether this technology succeeds at scale.
The event will feature more than 250 industry leaders, 200+ sessions across six industry stages, and connections with 10,000 founders, investors, and operators.
