Angular v22 Stabilizes Signal Forms and Makes OnPush Default
Google's latest Angular release promotes signal-based forms and reactive APIs to production status while shifting change detection defaults and adding experimental tools for AI coding agents.
InfoQ
Google has released Angular v22, its TypeScript-first web framework, bringing several APIs out of experimental status and introducing new capabilities designed for modern development workflows and AI-powered tools.
Core Stabilizations#
Three significant features are now production-ready. Signal Forms merge the strong type safety of reactive forms with the simplicity of template-driven approaches, now complete with comprehensive documentation and integration with Angular Material and Angular Aria. Accompanying this, a trio of asynchronous resource APIs—resource, rxResource, and httpResource—provide a standardized way to manage async data as signals, including a new chain() feature for coordinating dependent requests and built-in caching for server-side rendering scenarios.
Change Detection Shift#
The most broadly impactful change reorders how components detect updates. OnPush is now the default change detection strategy; the previous default has been relabeled Eager. This shift encourages developers to adopt more granular reactivity patterns from the start.
Dependency Injection and Templates#
A new @Service() decorator simplifies the pattern of creating global singletons, sidestepping the verbose @Injectable({providedIn: 'root'}) annotation. The injectAsync feature allows services to be loaded on demand and code-split, with optional idle-time prefetching for better performance.
Template syntax gains ergonomic improvements including spread and rest operators, multi-case matching, exhaustive checks via never in @switch blocks, inline arrow functions, and comments within element tags. An error boundary component—@boundary—is promised as a developer preview in Q3 2026.
AI and Tooling#
On the AI integration front, Angular introduces experimental WebMCP support, exposing application and Signal Forms capabilities to in-browser agents. New Angular Agent Skills and stable MCP dev server tooling round out the AI-focused additions.
