Apple settles $250M Siri AI lawsuit; iPhone users can now claim payouts
Owners of recent iPhones can file claims for compensation over delayed artificial intelligence features that Apple promised but didn't deliver.
The Verge
Apple has agreed to a $250 million settlement resolving claims that the company misled consumers about when AI-powered Siri would arrive on new iPhones. Eligible US smartphone owners can now submit claims for compensation through the settlement website.
Who Can Claim#
Customers who bought an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 model between June 10th, 2024, and March 29th, 2025, are eligible to file. You will need to provide your name, contact details, and iPhone serial number to process your claim. The deadline to apply is December 21st, 2026.
Payment Amounts#
Claimants can expect to receive an estimated $25 per qualifying device, though this figure could rise to $95 depending on claim volume. The fewer people who file, the higher individual payouts could become.
What the Lawsuit Alleged#
The class action suit centered on Apple's marketing practices around its new AI capabilities. At WWDC 2024, the company showcased an array of advanced AI features set to debut with the iPhone 16. However, when the phone launched, it shipped with a more limited feature set than anticipated, despite being marketed as "built for Apple Intelligence." The enhanced Siri—a centerpiece of Apple's AI push—only appeared in iOS 27 earlier this month, months after initial launch.
The plaintiffs argued Apple created "clear and reasonable consumer expectations" that these capabilities would ship immediately. Apple has maintained it did not act wrongfully in the matter.
