Anthropic expands voice mode to its most powerful AI models
Claude's Opus and Sonnet can now interact via voice, joining Haiku as the company widens app integrations and language support.
The Verge
Anthropic has broadened access to voice conversations with Claude, rolling out the feature to its more sophisticated models after users demonstrated demand for deeper reasoning through spoken interaction.
Expanding beyond quick queries#
Voice mode initially launched with Claude Haiku, Anthropic's lightweight model optimized for speed. Users swiftly showed that they wanted to tackle more ambitious problems through voice—diving into complex business challenges, drafting proposals, and managing schedules. Haiku's design prioritized responsiveness over analytical depth, leaving those needs unmet.
The company now offers voice interaction with Opus and Sonnet, models engineered for nuanced problem-solving. These variants can handle intricate analysis, generate richer responses, and execute actions on a user's behalf—like converting a conversation into a pitch document or rescheduling meetings when circumstances change.
Seamless switching and wider reach#
Users can toggle between text and voice mid-conversation, and shift between models as the situation demands. A quick voice exchange with Haiku might spark an idea worth exploring further through Opus's more powerful reasoning.
Anthropic is also rolling out voice mode to productivity and communication platforms including Gmail, Slack, and Canva, embedding conversational AI into tools where teams already work.
Language expansion#
The company has expanded voice support beyond English beta versions. Voice mode is now available in French, German, Spanish, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese, broadening the feature's usability across international users.
