Amazon Alexa Plus bug triggers creepy loops of nonsensical singing
A growing number of Echo speaker users report their Alexa Plus assistants freezing up to perform unwitting musical performances of repetitive "lalala" sounds, sometimes for extended periods.
The Verge
Multiple Amazon Echo smart speaker owners are encountering a disconcerting malfunction where their devices get stuck repeating the word "lalala" — sometimes sung — for several minutes at a stretch. The glitch often materializes mid-conversation, leaving users bemused or unsettled. When pressed about the behavior afterward, Alexa displays no memory or awareness of the episode.
Reports mounting across multiple devices#
The problem has surfaced repeatedly on Reddit in recent weeks, affecting various Echo speaker models including the Echo Studio. Users have posted video documentation of their speakers performing these bizarre vocal loops, with some instances lasting for extended stretches. Reddit threads documenting the phenomenon have accumulated as recently as the past few days.
Amazon acknowledges and plans fix#
Amazon has acknowledged the flaw exists, telling Android Authority it represents a bug limited to "a small number of Alexa Plus" subscribers, with remedial measures already underway. The company's statement offered little detail about either the root cause or when users might expect the issue to resolve.

The Amazon Echo Studio is one of the speakers that runs Alexa Plus.
