Meta's Muse AI agent, launched barely a month ago, is already receiving a sweeping set of upgrades that position it as the company's primary push into consumer artificial intelligence. CEO Mark Zuckerberg used Meta's annual Connect conference to unveil a collection of new features and integrations designed to embed Muse deeper into users' routines across multiple devices and platforms.
The agent, powered by Meta's multimodal Muse Spark model, is being framed as a more accessible alternative to competing AI assistants. Zuckerberg called it "the centerpiece of our vision," predicting Muse would evolve into "the personal superintelligence that billions of people around the world are going to use."
A Face for the AI#
One of the more engaging announcements centered on giving Muse a digital persona. Users will gain the ability to create and interact with a custom avatar that represents their agent, engaging in real-time video conversations. The feature relies on a new model called Muse Realtime Avatar, transforming what has been an interface-less piece of software into something with visible identity, voice, and personality.
Expanding across devices and platforms#
Smart glasses integration: Muse will soon operate through Meta's smart glasses line, activated by a voice command. Users will be able to ask their glasses to handle tasks ranging from workout guidance and meal logging to appointment scheduling and product recommendations. The company indicated this feature would arrive "in the coming months."
Mac desktop control: Building on a previously announced capability, Meta confirmed Muse will automate work on Mac computers. The agent can operate any application on a user's desktop and continue working independently once tasks are delegated, allowing users to step away while their agent handles queued jobs.
Personal email address: The company is developing a dedicated email account for Muse, enabling users to add the agent to email threads or forward messages for it to process. This addition underscores Muse's evolution toward functioning as an autonomous assistant with its own digital presence.
Building a shopping ecosystem#
Meta has assembled a significant roster of retail and payment partners, signaling serious ambitions for Muse as a commerce tool. Direct integrations include Stripe and Shopify, with the agent able to browse Shopify's product catalog and complete purchases using Shop Pay or PayPal. Major retailers signed on include , alongside travel platform and grocery service .
