Slack launches dedicated coding channels for AI collaboration
The messaging platform is rolling out a new space where teams can work directly with AI agents on code without leaving Slack.
The Verge
Slack is rolling out Slack Code, a new feature designed to keep development work centralized within the platform by giving teams a dedicated space to collaborate with AI agents on programming tasks.
How it works#
Instead of toggling between Slack and separate coding tools, developers can summon AI agents directly into project-specific channels. Once an agent like Claude or Devin is invited to tackle a feature, bug fix, or content update, it automatically sets up a dedicated code channel where the entire team can follow progress in real time.
The channels come equipped with tools for reviewing code changes side-by-side, previewing live HTML output before deployment, and leaving feedback on the agent's work. Team members can approve or request revisions before the code ships.
Key features#
- Audit trails — All conversations and code decisions are logged for compliance and reference
- Auto-archiving — Channels close themselves once the task wraps up
- Marketplace integration — Works with AI partners including Claude Code, Devin, Vercel Agent, and GitHub Copilot
Availability and positioning#
Slack Code is available today across all Slack plan tiers. The company is framing AI agents as collaborators—a narrative that echoes how other platforms like SpaceX's Grok Bot are positioning agent tools. The move reflects a broader shift toward embedding AI directly into team communication and workflow platforms.
