Adobe acquires Topaz Labs, adding Emmy-winning video and image enhancement to Creative Cloud
The creative software giant is integrating Topaz's AI-powered video upscaling and image retouching tools into its Firefly ecosystem as it battles Canva and DaVinci Resolve.

Adobe has announced plans to acquire Topaz Labs, an established developer of AI-powered tools for video and image enhancement. The deal will fold Topaz's offerings into Adobe's Creative Cloud suite and Firefly AI platform, with closing expected in the second half of 2026.
Topaz Labs has built a 20-year track record in enhancement technology, and recently won an Emmy last year for its production tech. The company's recent models include Astra for video upscaling and Wonder for image retouching. It has also developed proprietary technology that optimizes large AI models to run on consumer GPUs.
Integration and positioning#
Adobe plans to integrate Topaz's models into Firefly and its image and video editing suites, while keeping the tools available as standalone services. The move aims to help professionals blend real-life footage with AI-generated content—sharpening details, reducing noise, and restoring archival material—all within Adobe's ecosystem.
"Topaz Labs brings deep expertise in optimizing large, complex AI models to run directly on device, a capability that will allow Adobe to deliver faster, more responsive experiences for customers and make advanced AI more accessible and cost-effective for creatives," said Deepa Subramaniam, VP of product marketing for Creative Cloud at Adobe.
Strategic consolidation#
The acquisition reflects Adobe's broader push to entrench AI across its creative tools and fend off rising competition from Canva and Blackmagic Design's DaVinci Resolve. By bringing in specialist video and image enhancement capabilities, Adobe is trying to keep users from defecting to other platforms for post-production work.
