Legato's AI hearing glasses now available at $999 with voice-isolation tech
The startup's flagship eyewear product uses on-device AI to distinguish speech from noise without cameras or external recording.

Legato, a hearing technology company that emerged from stealth funding in August, has officially launched its AI-powered hearing glasses to the public. The wearable device, branded as Legato Frames, begins at $999 and targets adults dealing with mild to moderate hearing loss, positioning itself as an alternative to conventional hearing aids.
How the technology works#
Rather than relying on directional microphones like traditional hearing aids, the Legato Frames employ an AI engine that runs on-device to separate human voices from surrounding noise. The system amplifies speech while suppressing unwanted background sounds, all without using cameras or recording any audio. A dual-speaker setup within the frames directs sound toward the user's ears while containing most sound leakage—achieving roughly 99% sound reduction just a few inches away.
The device weighs 34 grams when fitted with lenses and provides 10–12 hours of battery life per charge. Users can select from three frame styles, opt for prescription lens integration, and stream music or calls via Bluetooth.
Addressing a market gap#
Legato's founders—Mehul Trivedi and Steve Romine—developed the company to tackle widespread barriers to hearing care: cost, comfort, and the social stigma tied to traditional devices. Both leaders bring extensive backgrounds from major hearing and wearables companies. Trivedi previously led Bose Frames development at Bose and later oversaw smart eyewear strategy at EssilorLuxottica, including work on Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses. Romine earlier managed Bose's hearing aids division before becoming COO at Audicus, a consumer hearing care provider.
Where to buy#
The Legato Frames are now available through the company's website and select eye care providers across the United States. Vision insurance plans may cover the purchase, making the devices accessible to a broader audience than many competing products.
