Apple releases macOS 27 Golden Gate with overhauled Siri AI assistant
The new operating system brings a contextual AI assistant, visual refinements, and performance gains, but drops support for Intel Macs.
The Verge
Apple has rolled out macOS 27 Golden Gate for Apple Silicon Macs, introducing a significantly upgraded Siri experience alongside visual and performance enhancements. The release marks a major milestone in the company's software evolution—and a definitive end to support for Intel-powered machines.
Siri AI takes center stage#
The star of this release is a redesigned Siri that moves well beyond voice commands and simple queries. The revamped assistant can now engage in more natural conversation, tap into your personal data across photos and emails, and execute actions directly within apps like Messages and Reminders. A new dedicated Siri application archives your conversation history, making it simpler to revisit past interactions.
That said, the rollout comes with caveats: Siri AI launches in beta form initially and is limited to English speakers for now.
Visual and interface refinements#
Apple has polished macOS's visual language with improvements to Liquid Glass elements. The update delivers what the company describes as "uniform refraction and improved contrast," and introduces a new control for adjusting transparency levels in Liquid Glass components.
Another notable change addresses a long-standing inconsistency: window corner radii are now uniform across the system, bringing greater visual coherence to the platform.
Apple Silicon only, Intel left behind#
The update runs exclusively on Macs built with Apple's own processors. Intel-based Macs are no longer receiving major releases—macOS Tahoe, released last year, marked the final substantial update for those machines.
