Slack's Slackbot can now generate interactive dashboards and reports right in your chat
Using AI, Slack's new Surfaces feature lets you ask Slackbot to create visualizations and tools that pull data from your workspace and connected apps.

Slack has unveiled Slackforce Surfaces, a new capability that lets teams generate interactive dashboards, reports, polls, and presentations directly within chat conversations. Rather than juggling multiple tools, users can simply describe what they need to Slackbot, which then taps into your workspace's conversation history and connected applications—like Google Drive or Salesforce—to build the visualization on the fly.
How it works#
The process is straightforward: describe your needs to Slackbot, and the AI assembles the requested tool using relevant data it can access. Once created, a Surface can be shared with teammates, pinned to channels for visibility, and edited collaboratively with inline comments. Slack demonstrated the concept with an arcade-themed token usage dashboard that displays consumption metrics across departments like sales, design, and engineering.
Why it matters#
"You're not exporting your data to some other tool to make sense of it, you're asking Slackbot to build the dashboard, the deck, the report right where the conversation already is, and your whole team can act on it together," according to Slack's chief marketing officer Ryan Gavin. This approach eliminates context-switching and keeps decision-making anchored within existing team conversations.
Potential applications#
Beyond dashboards, Surfaces could power live customer support queue monitors, weather-themed financial forecasts that integrate with external data sources, and other dynamic content. The feature respects existing permissions—it only accesses information you've authorized for Slack's AI tools.
Availability#
The capability is rolling out to all workspace tiers, including free accounts that have Slackbot enabled. Live data integration launches in October. This update follows Slack's recent expansion of Slackbot capabilities, including conversation summarization and collaborative code channels.
