Meta's Muse Code enters crowded AI coding agent market with parallel task processing
Meta's new terminal-based coding agent can tackle multiple software engineering tasks across large repositories by running sub-agents in parallel.

Meta has rolled out Muse Code, a beta terminal agent designed to help developers manage complex work across sprawling codebases. The tool can handle a full spectrum of software engineering activities—from planning architectural changes to writing implementation code and running validation checks.
How it works#
Muse Code, built on Meta's Muse Spark coding model, tackles large-scale projects by breaking them into parallel workstreams. When tasks are sufficiently complex, the system spawns isolated sub-agents that work simultaneously without interfering with each other or touching a developer's actual working directory. In internal testing, the tool successfully built six game features concurrently with no conflicts.
Competitive positioning#
The launch reflects Meta's push to strengthen its foothold in the crowded AI coding agent space, where OpenAI (Codex) and Anthropic (Claude Code) already dominate. Meta's executives argue Muse Code offers a compelling alternative, particularly on cost grounds. "We think that for a lot of workflows and a lot of use cases, this can be an incredibly good option, especially from a cost perspective," said Alexandr Wang, Meta's AI chief leading the Superintelligence Labs division.
Broader enterprise strategy#
This move is part of Meta's wider pivot into enterprise AI tools. Beyond consumer-focused advertising applications, the company has been aggressively investing in development infrastructure. Last June, Meta introduced a customer-service focused business agent, signaling ambitions to compete in the enterprise automation market alongside its push into developer tooling.
