Crusoe Lands $3.9B to Expand AI Compute Infrastructure Across Giant and Modular Data Centers
The AI infrastructure company's latest funding round triples its valuation in less than a year and positions it to scale both massive facilities and portable modular compute clusters.
TechCrunch — AI
Crusoe, a major provider of AI compute capacity, closed a $3.9 billion funding round that values the company at $30.9 billion. Led by Atreides Management, Mubadala Capital, and Valor Equity Partners—with backing from Founders Fund, GIC, Nvidia, the Qatar Investment Authority, Radical Ventures, and TPG—the capital infusion reflects growing investor appetite for data center infrastructure that can support large-scale AI workloads.
Scaling Two Approaches to Compute#
The fundraising windfall will fuel two parallel strategies: developing large, traditional data center campuses alongside smaller, modular facilities that can be deployed rapidly. Crusoe operates a significant facility in Abilene, Texas, serving clients like OpenAI, while its newer "Spark" line consists of truck-transportable compute units that plug into existing power infrastructure. This modular approach sidesteps construction delays and some of the local opposition that larger complexes often face.
Leadership and Strategic Investors#
The company appointed three new board members: Thomas Seifert (CFO of Cloudflare), Bill Stein (partner and CIO at Primary Digital Infrastructure), and JB Straubel (founder and CEO of Redwood Materials, Tesla board member). Straubel, who invested in Crusoe in 2021, has an existing relationship with the company—Crusoe became Redwood's first customer for energy storage solutions.
A Diversified Revenue Model#
Crusoe generates income through three channels: leasing raw data center space to clients who supply their own GPUs, renting GPUs directly, and selling inference capacity for running AI models. This mixed approach has proven lucrative; the company recently signed a $13 billion, five-year cloud deal with Jane Street, the quantitative trading firm. Major customers include Meta, Microsoft, and Oracle.
Path to Public Markets#
The funding milestone comes roughly ten months after Crusoe raised $1.38 billion at a $10 billion valuation in October 2025, reflecting the dramatic acceleration in infrastructure value as generative AI adoption spreads. Industry reports suggest the company has held preliminary IPO discussions with Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and other banks, signaling a potential path to public markets in the near term.
