Twitch Streamers Now Have a Way to Block Amazon from Using Their Content for AI Training
A new privacy toggle gives creators control over whether their streams and clips fuel Amazon's generative AI models.
The Verge
Twitch has introduced a new privacy control that lets content creators prevent their material from being fed into Amazon's generative AI systems. The feature comes as a toggle in the platform's security and privacy settings.
What You Can Opt Out Of#
When disabled, the setting ensures that "streams, VODs, clips, stream chats, and pictures and text on your channel" won't feed into "future training" of any Amazon AI model designed to "generate or synthesize text, audio, images, or video," according to Twitch's support documentation.
The toggle appears enabled by default, meaning creators who want to exclude their content must manually turn it off.
What Remains Unaffected#
Opting out of generative AI training doesn't disable other AI-powered features on the platform. Twitch's captions, safety tools, recommendation systems, and community moderation features will continue to operate normally. These use cases fall into what Twitch describes as "other purposes" beyond direct generative model training.
One important limitation: if you participate in chat on someone else's stream, their privacy settings—not yours—determine whether that conversation data gets used for training purposes.
The Broader Context#
Amazon's description for the toggle notes that disabling it "does not opt you out of Twitch and Amazon using your channel content for other purposes," including recommendation algorithms and streamer monetization assistance. The setting narrowly controls generative AI training specifically.
