Airbnb rolls out AI-powered search and expanded social discovery tools
The travel platform is deploying intelligent search alongside new social features that let users explore properties through friends' trip history and neighborhood insights.

Airbnb is pursuing a dual strategy to deepen both its on-platform services and its travel discovery experience. The company's latest fall update combines expanded hospitality conveniences with artificial intelligence capabilities designed to help users find the right property and experiences more intuitively.
Expanding on-ground services#
Building on initiatives introduced last year, Airbnb continues to layer practical amenities onto its core rental offering. Guests can now arrange meal delivery, laundry service, equipment rentals for skiing and boating, and baby gear availability across select markets. Grocery delivery options are expanding geographically as well, positioning Airbnb as a more comprehensive travel platform that competes with traditional hotels on convenience.
AI search arrives (carefully)#
After months of deliberate development, Airbnb is introducing its first AI search capability, allowing travelers to query properties using natural language — both typed and spoken. The system responds with contextual filters that evolve based on search intent. Entering "baby," for example, automatically surfaces relevant amenities like cribs, play areas, and children's books.
CEO Brian Chesky emphasized the engineering complexity involved. "Anyone can vibe-code a search function, but to do something that doesn't kill conversion rate, that's the hard part," he told TechCrunch. The company has opted against a conversational chatbot approach, instead embedding AI more narrowly into search and property comparison workflows. The system also generates AI-powered summaries and reviews to help guests compare options on their wish lists.
Social exploration and neighborhood discovery#
Airbnb is reinforcing social connectivity features that encourage repeat bookings and ancillary spending on activities. Users can now view a map showing where their connections have traveled or plan to go, along with the experiences and accommodations those friends chose. Privacy controls allow travelers to opt out of sharing their itineraries.
Alongside social signals, Airbnb is developing neighborhood guide pages aggregated from guest reviews and other data sources, helping travelers identify dining, entertainment, and local activities before booking.
