Pinterest launches AI 'Restyle' tool to let users visualize home decor in their own spaces
The platform is bringing generative AI directly into its app, letting users test furniture and decor options before purchasing.
TechCrunch — AI
Pinterest is bridging the gap between inspiration and purchase intent by introducing an AI-powered room redesign tool. The new "Restyle" feature, now in limited beta across the U.S. and Canada, enables users to upload photos of their own homes and experiment with different decor, furnishings, and styling options in real time.
How Restyle works#
Users can upload a photo of their room and use natural language prompts to make changes—adding furniture, wall art, plants, or swapping paint colors and lighting schemes. The tool also lets people apply aesthetic trends like "bohemian," "industrial," or "dopamine" styling to their space. Individual items can be modified by clicking directly on them to replace, remove, or adjust them further. For added convenience, users can source design inspiration from their own Pinterest boards, testing saved items in their actual rooms before committing to a purchase.
Powered by Pinterest Intelligence#
The feature runs on Pinterest Intelligence, a system built on Nvidia Blackwell GPUs and Dynamo processors combined with custom Pinterest technology. This infrastructure supports enhanced visual search, better conversion of user searches into AI-driven discovery, and improved shopping recommendations across the platform.
Why it matters for Pinterest#
While room redesign AI isn't a new concept in consumer applications, embedding it directly into Pinterest creates a strategic advantage: users can immediately purchase items they've pinned and visualized in their homes. Converting the traditional "save-to-board" workflow into a "see-to-buy" journey could meaningfully lift sales and engagement on the platform.
The feature debuted at Pinterest's annual Presents event, where the company unveiled updated advertising tools and creator features. Restyle will expand to broader availability next month.
