Pocket FM's revenue doubles to $500M as AI generates most of its audio catalog
The Indian audio storytelling platform has automated 93% of its content library through AI while maintaining human creators as story originators.

Pocket FM, India's leading audio storytelling platform, has nearly doubled its annual revenue run rate to $500 million in a single year, driven by a shift toward AI-powered content production across its growing catalog.
The platform now relies on artificial intelligence to produce 93% of its overall library and 99% of all newly created content. Despite this automation, the company maintains a hybrid model where human creators develop story concepts while AI handles the technical production work.
The AI advantage and production economics#
The move toward AI has fundamentally transformed Pocket FM's production capabilities. According to co-founder and CEO Rohan Nayak, the technology has made content production approximately 80 times cheaper and dramatically faster—what once required a year to complete (100 hours of content) can now be produced in a single day.
The platform's AI head, Vasu Sharma, a former scientist at Meta and Tesla, explained that Pocket FM built proprietary models trained on years of production data and audience engagement patterns. These tools handle creative writing and text-to-speech conversion while keeping human storytellers in charge of concept development. As Nayak noted: "We want to create great IPs that last 100 years, and that needs humans."
Explosive content growth and listener engagement#
The efficiency gains have enabled Pocket FM to expand its content volume dramatically. The platform's 550,000+ creators now produce roughly 2.5 million hours of AI-powered content annually—compared to just 100,000 hours in the platform's entire catalog two years ago. Today, Pocket FM has built a library exceeding 770,000 audio series.
This abundance of content has strengthened user retention. The platform's 12-month revenue retention rate jumped to 76% from 44% in just two years, with the variety helping match stories to diverse listener preferences.
Geographic expansion and revenue sources#
Pocket FM's rapid growth reflects expansion across multiple continents and revenue streams. Originally concentrated in India, the platform now reaches more than 250 million listeners across 20+ countries. The U.S. has become its largest market, generating about 70% of the annualized revenue run rate despite 70% growth year-over-year.
Revenue comes from two sources: approximately $85 million from advertising, with the remaining $415 million derived from users paying to access individual episodes. Notably, 96 titles have each generated more than $1 million in revenue, including 13 that surpassed $10 million.
