Nvidia invests hundreds of millions in Cloverleaf, a critical data center infrastructure firm
The chipmaker is doubling down on its strategy to finance the physical infrastructure powering AI systems—and the data centers that will buy its chips.

Nvidia announced a strategic partnership with Cloverleaf Infrastructure on Friday, acquiring a minority stake in the startup that specializes in building the foundational infrastructure for AI data centers. The investment is expected to amount to several hundred million dollars, according to reporting by the Wall Street Journal, though both companies kept the exact terms private.
What Cloverleaf does#
Cloverleaf, founded in 2024, operates as a crucial intermediary between power utilities and data center operators. The company secures land, coordinates power delivery, and handles other essential site preparation work that precedes data center construction—tasks that are increasingly critical as demand for computational capacity accelerates. The startup raised $300 million in its inaugural funding round that same year.
Part of a broader strategy#
This move fits into Nvidia's widening bet on vertical integration across the AI infrastructure stack. Rather than simply selling chips to data center builders, the company is now directly financing the projects that will consume its hardware. Earlier in the week, Nvidia committed $1.5 billion to SB Energy, another data center developer linked to OpenAI's expansion efforts in Ohio.
The underlying logic is straightforward: by ensuring that new data centers are built, Nvidia secures future demand for its processors—creating what the company sees as an accelerating cycle of AI buildout and chip consumption.
