OpenAI's Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser Exits, Marking Second Executive Departure in Days
Dresser, who became CRO after leaving the Slack CEO role, is stepping down to explore new prospects as OpenAI navigates a wave of leadership changes.
The Verge
OpenAI's chief revenue officer Denise Dresser is departing the company within the next few weeks, according to an announcement she made on LinkedIn. Her exit comes just days after another top executive, Brad Lightcap, disclosed his own departure from the artificial intelligence firm.
Dresser's Departure and Successor#
Dresser, who arrived at OpenAI in December following her tenure as CEO of Slack, will be succeeded by Dali Rajic, currently serving as president and chief operating officer of Wiz. The company has framed the transition as part of positioning itself for rapid expansion, noting that the next wave of AI models will fundamentally reshape both work processes and organizational structures.
Broader Leadership Turnover#
The exodus extends beyond Dresser and Lightcap. The company has recently seen departures from other senior roles, including former AGI chief Fidji Simo and former CMO Kate Rouch, who each stepped down from their positions. Lightcap, who held the COO title before moving into special projects, had delegated some of his responsibilities to Dresser when shifting roles—responsibilities she is now leaving behind.
Timing and IPO Context#
Dresser's decision to leave precedes a significant milestone for the company: OpenAI revealed in June that it had filed a confidential S-1 form with the Securities and Exchange Commission, signaling plans to pursue an initial public offering. The timing of multiple executive departures during this regulatory process underscores the transition period the organization is navigating.
OpenAI has characterized the current moment as a turning point, emphasizing that building the systems needed to capitalize on next-generation models will require new leadership focus and operational structures.
