Google brings Gemini Spark agentic assistant to Mac with new app integrations
Google's AI assistant Gemini Spark is expanding to macOS with file management capabilities and connections to popular productivity and service apps.
TechCrunch — AI
Google has rolled out Gemini Spark, its AI agent designed to manage digital tasks, to macOS users via an updated Gemini desktop application. The move positions the assistant to compete more directly with other desktop-based AI agents already on the market.
Key capabilities on macOS#
Spark can now interact with files stored locally on Mac computers, and will soon enable users to delegate multi-step workflows across devices—such as asking the desktop version to retrieve information from files and use that data on mobile devices. For immediate use, the tool handles file organization, converts existing documents into spreadsheets or Google Workspace files, and can process files like invoices into budgeting templates.
New integrations expand functionality#
The rollout adds support for Google Tasks and Google Keep, addressing a gap identified in early testing where note-taking should integrate seamlessly with the assistant rather than forcing everything into full documents. Beyond Google's ecosystem, Spark now connects to Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals, enabling capabilities like restaurant reservations, grocery ordering, flyer design, and apartment hunting.
Custom Model Context Protocol (MCP) support is also launching, allowing power users to plug in their preferred applications directly into the assistant for deeper personalization.
Real-time tracking and monitoring#
Spark has gained the ability to monitor topics and events as they unfold, improving its usefulness for following sports, financial markets, and breaking news. The assistant can also track activity across social media, blogs, shopping sites, and weather services, making it more useful for time-sensitive information.
Availability and rollout#
The macOS beta is currently limited to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the United States. This staged launch gives the company time to refine the experience before broader availability.
