UK AI Infrastructure Startup Nscale Eyes $3.5B Before Public Market Debut
The two-year-old compute provider is pursuing significant additional capital ahead of its anticipated September IPO, including convertible notes and funding from Nvidia.
TechCrunch — AI
Nscale, a nascent British AI infrastructure firm, is moving toward a public listing while simultaneously hunting for fresh capital. The company, which has been operating for roughly two years, is targeting an IPO as soon as September and is currently negotiating to secure $3.5 billion in additional funding.
Pre-IPO Capital Raise#
According to reporting from Bloomberg, Nscale plans to sell $1.5 billion in convertible notes — debt instruments that can be exchanged for equity at a later date — to a slate of investors. Separately, the startup is pursuing $2 billion in additional financing from Nvidia, the AI chipmaker that has already backed the company in previous rounds.
Growth Through Strategic Partnerships#
Nscale's financing trajectory has moved at a striking pace. The company's Series A round in December 2024 brought in $155 million, followed by a Series B in March led by investment fund Aker that raised $1.1 billion. Nvidia participated in that Series B, which Nscale touted as "the largest Series B in European history."
More recently, Nscale signed a mammoth supply deal with AI lab Anthropic worth approximately $45 billion. Based on that commitment and other signed customer contracts, the company has projected roughly $103 billion in future revenue to prospective investors — though this figure represents projected leases rather than current revenues.
Why the Frenzy#
The race to control AI compute has become central to competitive advantage in the current AI landscape. Startups offering reliable infrastructure have found themselves in a position of significant leverage, attracting both venture capital and strategic investments from established tech players seeking to secure compute capacity.
