The tech giant has rolled out its latest operating system updates, featuring a redesigned Siri powered by AI as the centerpiece.
The Verge
Apple has begun distributing iOS 27 to iPhones today, accompanied by synchronized releases of watchOS 27, iPadOS 27, and visionOS 27. The overhaul of Siri with artificial intelligence capabilities forms the focal point of these releases, representing a long-awaited reimagining of Apple's voice assistant.
Siri AI Takes Center Stage#
The revamped Siri arrives as a beta feature available initially for English-language devices. Apple plans to expand support to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish by October. This marks a significant step forward in making the assistant more capable and personalized across Apple's device ecosystem.
Additional Features Across Platforms#
Beyond the Siri update, iOS 27 introduces the Liquid Glass opacity control, allowing users to adjust their interface's transparency—choosing between clearer visuals or a frosted appearance. The system also brings refreshed icon designs with subtle color updates, larger widget options, and expanded audio controls for ringtones, alarms, timers, and notifications.
Apple Watch users gain new Workout Buddy features and refined Smart Stack suggestions, while the Find My app receives improvements. iPad experiences enhancements including faster file transfers to external storage, quicker web browsing, and more seamless switching between Wi-Fi and cellular connections. Vision Pro owners benefit from the Siri update plus notification previews via eye tracking, Control Center adjustments, Wi-Fi improvements, and the ability to transform personal panoramic photos into immersive environments.
Device Compatibility#
The updates target a broad range of Apple hardware: iOS 27 requires iPhone 11 or later (or iPhone SE 2nd generation and beyond); watchOS 27 works with Apple Watch SE 3, Series 9, and Ultra 2 models; iPadOS 27 supports iPad Pro (4th gen and newer), iPad Air (4th gen and newer), iPad mini (6th gen), and base iPad (9th gen and newer); visionOS 27 rolls out to Vision Pro users.
