Berlin's IFA 2026 is delivering an early rush of product announcements before the doors officially open to the public, showcasing everything from hybrid work-and-play gadgets to appliances built with repairability in mind.
Gaming meets productivity#
Acer is testing a concept that flips the traditional gaming laptop script. Its DualPlay Mini pairs a Windows-based gaming handheld with an innovative swiveling screen that can flip atop a mini keyboard, transforming it into a portable workstation. The 8-inch display may strain those juggling large spreadsheets, but the design targets lighter productivity tasks—like tackling emails during a commute before docking with a larger monitor at the office.
A more affordable productivity option arrives via Dell's 14S student laptop, which undercuts the sleeker XPS 13 in pursuit of accessibility. Starting at 8GB RAM and 256GB storage (upgradeable to 16GB/1TB), it packs a 1080P face-unlock webcam, dual USB-C ports, and a headphone jack. It mirrors the aesthetic playbook of Apple's MacBook Neo with four pastel finishes: linen, dusty rose, washed denim, and velvet green.
Cleaning and control upgrades#
iRobot's new $1,199 Roomba Max 875 Combo introduces "SealForce," a feature that deploys a skirt around the cleaning head when carpeting is detected, sealing in suction for deeper results. The flagship boasts 35,000 Pa of suction power, dual mopping, lidar and camera navigation, and the ability to traverse obstacles up to 3.5cm high.
For handheld gaming, Jsaux's Voidjoy brand unveiled the SkyLark S1 Pro—a $49.99 portable controller with drift-resistant recessed thumbsticks, analog triggers suited for racing, and triple connectivity (Bluetooth, USB-C, 2.4GHz). The 2.4GHz option allows pairing two controllers to one transmitter, letting players swap character control mid-game—a feature particularly useful for parent-child multiplayer sessions.
The repair movement spreads#
Framework's push for user-serviceable laptops appears to be gaining traction. Acer's new 16-inch Vero 16 offers tool-free access to the SSD and battery, with future processor upgrades possible through Acer service centers. The company plans a launch outside North America in early 2027, though pricing remains unconfirmed.
For Nintendo Switch owners, Jsaux's $39.99 Elite Extender clips onto the back of the Pro controller, adding four programmable buttons for complex command sequences. It includes its own rechargeable battery but disables Amiibo functionality while attached.
